“It’s the Photographer”
In late November Joao Silva, a Photojournalist on assignment for the New York Times was following 10 or 15 American soldiers and a unit of Afghan soldiers and police officers with Times Correspondant Carlotta Gall when he stepped on a mine. The explosion resulted in the loss of both of his legs below the knee.
The times article covering Silva’s experience includes some of the images he shot that day, including the three he took after the explosion before he was too weak to hold his camera.
Silva is a shining example of a Photojournalist committed to his craft, and unfortunately suffering the unspeakable for it.
